Enlighting Mind

On May 16 the scientific center of Sesto Fiorentino celebrated the International Day of Light, established by Unesco, with a rich program of initiatives on the occasion of the inauguration of four new laboratories for the degree course in Optics and Optometry at the Physics Department of Florence.

Among the organizers: the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Florence, the Degree Course in Optics and Optometry of the same University, the National Institute of Optics of the National Research Council (CNR-INO), the Institute of Applied Sciences and Intelligent Systems (CNR-ISASI) and IDIS CittĂ  della Scienza Foundation of Naples.

On the occasion of the event, focused on the exhibition dedicated to the optical illusions “Enlighting Mind”, the department hosted two art installations by the artist of the light Fabrizio Corneli, and, on 24 May, a workshop for young researchers.

The inauguration at the Department of Physics and Astronomy was attended by the president of the UNIFI degree course in Optics and Optometry, Massimo Gurioli, director of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Duccio Fanelli, the rector of the University of Florence Alessandra Petrucci, the councilor of the Municipality of Sesto Fiorentino to the School and relations with the University and with the scientific center, Sara Martini, Elisabetta Baldanzi of the CNR-INO, Gilda Mura of Costruzioni Strumenti Oftalmici (CSO), the sculptor Fabrizio Corneli, Antigone Marino of CNR-ISASI and Councilor of the Italian Physics Society, and Carla Giusti of the Idis CittĂ  della Scienza Foundation.
