Descrizione dell’attività di ricerca:
The research activity is aimed at the development of innovative analysis and diagnostic
methodologies primarily based on advanced imaging technologies. Within this framework, imaging
systems and instrumentation available at the Thermography and Infrared Imaging Laboratory of
ISASI-CNR, operating in the VIS, NIR, SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR spectral regions, are employed to
develop non-invasive image sensing systems with applications in precision agriculture, cultural
heritage, and non-destructive testing (NDT). Sample analysis is performed both in passive mode,
under natural or standard operating illumination conditions, and in active mode, by monitoring
the sample’s behavior before, during, and after stimulation using coherent and non-coherent light
sources operating in the spectral range from UV to NIR. The information derived from this
approach enables, on the one hand, the development and implementation of novel image-based
analysis systems for monitoring the structural and functional properties of the investigated
samples and, on the other hand, the study of their response to different types of optical
stimulation, contributing to the scientific understanding of the physical mechanisms governing
such responses. A significant part of the research activity is devoted to the definition of ad-hoc
operational protocols and to the development of home-made data analysis procedures,
implemented using computational environments such as MATLAB and the C++ programming
language.
