Unit of Napoli

The “Eduardo Caianiello” Institute of Applied Sciences and Intelligent Systems (ISASI) has recently strengthened its scientific structure by incorporating as a new unit (ISASI-Na) the former secondary office of the Institute of Microelectronics and Microsystems, located in the biotechnology area of the CNR of Naples near the “Federico II” University Polyclinic and the major hospitals in the city. The research staff, supported by technicians and administrative employees, completes the ISASI research lines with skills ranging from physics, chemistry and electronic engineering, covering the path of innovation of knowledge from the understanding of basic phenomena to the design and creation of innovative devices.

The main scientific research activities developed in the ISASI-Na laboratories are highly interdisciplinary and focused on micro / nano-photonic and optoelectronic technologies and devices for applications in biomedicine, telecommunications, aerospace, energy and the environment, as well as on the synthesis, functionalization and characterization of nanostructured materials and surfaces. The Unit has a clean room with class 1000 and class 100 zones dedicated to synthesis and nano-fabrication procedures, and several laboratories for the optoelectronic characterization of materials and devices.

Although historically rooted in the territory through collaborations with local universities and the dissemination of scientific culture in schools of all levels, the Unit maintains a markedly international character through cooperation with foreign research institutes such as: LETI, DIMES, UCLA, Boston University, and Lawrence National Berkeley Labs. The applicative nature of the research favors technology transfer and synergy with large national companies (Alenia Aeronautica, STMicroelectronics, Selex SI) and with innovative SMEs (Materias, Tresol, TME).
