Short Bio
Massimo Rippa graduated cum laude in Physics in 2004 from the Faculty of Science at the University of Naples “Federico II,” with a thesis titled “Polymeric Films for Optical Communications: Materials Characterization and Device Design”. In December 2009, he obtained his Ph.D. in the international program “Novel Technologies for Materials, Sensors, and Imaging” at the same university. His doctoral research focused on “Monitoring Laser–Biological Tissue Interaction on Plane Angioma by Functional Infrared Imaging”.
Dr. Rippa has worked for several years at the Institute of Cybernetics “E. Caianiello” (ICIB) and at the Institute of Chemistry and Polymer Technology (ICTP) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) . He has participated in numerous national and international research projects, including two bilateral cooperation programs involving the CNR, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), as well as a European Horizon 2020 project, with different roles and responsibilities. He served as Principal Investigator of four CNR-funded Short-Term Mobility programs at Ningbo University (China), focused on plasmonic nanosensors.
His current research focuses on infrared imaging for cultural heritage, agriculture, non-destructive testing (NDT), and photonics, with particular emphasis on plasmonic nanostructures for sensing applications. He is the author or co-author of 137 scientific papers in international journals, 4 patents, and one monograph, and has contributed to more than 80 national and international conferences. Dr. Rippa holds the Italian National Qualification for Associate Professor in Experimental Physics of Matter (Sector 02/B1).
He is currently a permanent Ph.D. researcher at the Institute of Applied Sciences and Intelligent Systems (CNR-ISASI) where he coordinates activities at the Thermography and Infrared Imaging Laboratory. He is also Principal Investigator of a bilateral CNR–DFKI (Germany) project in cultural heritage, Scientific Coordinator for a national project in agriculture, and Principal Investigator and Scientific Coordinator of two collaboration agreements with the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape of the Metropolitan Area of Naples (SABAP-NA) and the Municipality of Naples (SABAP).
