The Campania Region has appointed Dr. Antigone Marino as Vice President of the Idis Foundation – Città della Scienza.
This appointment—following that of astrophysicist Giovanni Covone as President—represents significant recognition of the value of scientific research and the expertise found within the Campania region, strengthening the link between science, innovation, and national development. For the CNR (National Research Council), it also represents evidence of the organization’s pivotal role in the region’s scientific and cultural landscape.
In their respective roles as President and Vice President, the two scientists will guide the strategic activities of the Idis Foundation – Città della Scienza, promoting initiatives dedicated to disseminating scientific culture, fostering research, and facilitating dialogue among institutions, universities, businesses, and the public.
A native of Naples and a physicist by vocation, Antigone Marino is a researcher at the Institute of Applied Sciences and Intelligent Systems of the National Research Council (CNR ISASI). Her scientific work focuses on condensed matter physics, specifically optics and photonics. Her research centers on the study and development of innovative photonic materials and devices, soft matter optics, advanced optical characterization techniques, structured light, and quantum technologies.
Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous national and international research projects, contributing to the development of innovative solutions for applications ranging from telecommunications to quantum technologies. Alongside her research, she collaborates regularly with universities, research bodies, and industrial partners; she has also long been deeply committed to training young researchers and promoting scientific culture through outreach and knowledge transfer initiatives.
