Carmela BonavolontĂ and Massimo Valentino are Guest Editors of the Special Issue Advanced Photodetector Based on Multifunctional Material A special issue of Sensors (ISSN 1424-8220). This special issue belongs to the section “Physical Sensors» (MDPI) Due to their ability to convert light into electrical signals, photodetectors have received considerable attention in several fields of application: optoelectronics, security, aerospace, biochemistry, imaging, renewable energy, and cultural heritage. The growing interest in enhancing the performance of photodetectors and the need to integrate multiple functions in a single device have led to the development of multifunctional devices based on novel materials that replace traditional materials in silicon-based photodetectors. A significant effort in creating multifunctional photodetectors with selectable response bands has been achieved through the application of highly flexible, ultrasensitive, and transparent multifunctional materials consisting of organic/inorganic matrices, hybrid composites, and 2D materials such as graphene, nanowires, and nanotube assemblies. This special issue will collect recent advances in the fabrication, design, understanding, and use of multifunctional photodetectors covering different fields of application. This collection will include research articles and rapid communications reporting new experimental, theoretical or simulation results on multifunctional photodetectors. Review articles on specific aspects, new insights and perspectives are welcome. Keywords photodetectors based on 2D materials, multifunctional nanoscale device, organic photodetectors, multifunctional 2D materials for chemical and biological agent detection, multifunctional composite materials, metal-halide perovskite optoelectronics applications, single-photon detectors Deadline for manuscript submissions: 20 June 2025
