IEEE Photonics Society LUX QUANTA

IEEE Photonics Society LUX QUANTA

On Friday, 18th October 2024, at the Futuro Remoto festival at CittĂ  della Scienza in Naples, the IEEE Photonics Society Italy Chapter, in collaboration with the CNR-ISASI Institute, will present experiments and curiosities about quantum photonics at LUX QUANTA. This initiative was conceived by Antigone Marino, a CNR-ISASI researcher and President of the Italian Chapter of the IEEE Photonics Society, to highlight the value of scientific research on quantum photonics. The use of the quantum properties of light, such as entanglement and superposition, is proving to be revolutionary in developing new technologies in the fields of communication, computing, and cybersecurity. Thanks to quantum photonics, it is possible to create more powerful quantum computers and ultra-secure communication networks based on quantum cryptography, which promise to revolutionize the way we process and transmit information. Even fields like biomedicine, metrology, and imaging are beginning to harness the quantum nature of light to accelerate the development of advanced diagnostic and precision instruments. With a series of experiments and demonstrations, we will help visitors understand the essential role of photonics research in the development of various quantum technologies. We will talk about light spectra, the photoelectric effect, polarization, entanglement, and even quantum computing.
